TESS OF THE D'URBERVILLES - Thomas Hardy, 1891

I finished this today with a sense of satisfaction. I did enjoy reading it again but I found it so much less appealing this time round.
I was at Lostwithiel yesterday. There is a perfect place to read by the river. Then, today, I laid Tess to rest in the garden.

There are some undoubtedly beautiful images in it but I felt it didn't really get going until she murdered Alec.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS - Charles Dickens, 1861
Today I also began to re-read Pip’s adventures. This will be interesting as I have always preferred Hardy to Dickens.
