HEAT WAVE - Penelope Lively, 1996

I was drawn to this after enjoying Moon Tiger so much. It also appealed to me as I love the ‘long hot summer’ novel where the rising temperature is a metaphor for uncontrolled emotions.

This book is full of emotion; emotion controlled and denied until the inevitable boiling point is reached. We know it will all end in tears. That’s what makes us keep reading.
