HOTEL CALIFORNIA – Barney Hoskyns, 2006

To be honest, this book was too much for me. It bombarded me with names of people, places and songs at such a rapid pace that I felt quite bemused, despite enjoying it immensely. D is going to make it his holiday reading this year and because he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the people involved I am sure he will find it intoxicating.
I think to appreciate it best, you need to have a greater awareness of the people involved than I do, with my limited preparation, listening to the ‘Greatest Hits’ of James Taylor, The Eagles and Jackson Browne.
It’s fascinating stuff, though, journeying from busking hippies to greedy profit-driven corporate rock.
