BETJEMAN’S CORNWALL – John Betjeman, 1988

This is a book very close to my heart because I love the places it describes.

It is a mixture of Betjeman’s poetry and prose, drawn from a variety of sources, illustrated with appropriate drawings and photographs and is enough to whet anyone’s appetite for visiting the region. Betjeman’s love of the area is well known; he is buried in the midst of it at St Enedoc Church, near Daymer Bay where he played as a child. His celebration of the landscape and its people is infectious and highlights some of his best work: evocative descriptions, tinged with nostalgia.
