THE HIDDEN DANCE – Susan Wooldridge, 2010

I so wanted to love this. It’s the first novel by Susan Wooldridge who was so brilliant in her portrayal of Daphne Manners from The Jewel in the Crown.

It is a good story and it it’s not badly written but I didn’t love it; I didn’t feel moved and I didn’t feel inspired by it. This makes me feel disappointed but I know that I am judging it unfairly, purely because I had such high expectations. However, I just can’t say that I would want to read it again or recommend it to a friend, even though I loved the way the author brought to life a character I adore.
