THE PEDANT IN THE KITCHEN – Julian Barnes, 2003

Wise words from someone who enjoys cooking, this is based on a collection of articles from The Guardian newspaper.
Barnes vents his frustration with recipe books which fail to provide sufficient information to cook a dish correctly or, worse, give misleading instructions. He provides examples of meals which have gone spectacularly wrong and some which have been surprisingly successful.

A wry humour pervades all, though, and makes this a light and witty read.
