OLD TIMES ON THE MISSISSIPPI - Mark Twain, 1876

I have been teaching an extract of this for the past four years so I thought that it was about time that I read the whole thing.
What a joy! I thought that river boats were quite romantic but I didn’t think I would care much about how to navigate them.

I teach it as a way to explain satire and irony to 13 year olds.
I now realise just how perfect it is for the purpose.
