NOTES FROM AN EXHIBITION – Patrick Gale, 2008

Another re-reading of another Cornish novel. Patrick Gale is a fine author and here he shows himself to be a very fine one.

Art, depression and the Cornish landscape is a heady cocktail. Rachel Kelly, living in Penzance with her family, struggles to juggle life with art. The story is told in fragments, interspersed by the cards which explain the works of art in an exhibition. The official version of her life is thereby placed alongside the more personal, as told from her viewpoint and by those who know her, there to be in
terpreted as a canvas in an art show.
