THE PURSUIT OF LOVE – Nancy Mitford, 1945

I thought that this would be a whimsical little comedy of manners but there are many deeper themes at work here.
There is an underlying darkness beneath the sparkling wit.
Linda is a very troubled soul and her pursuit of love is driven by a need for acceptance and, as is hinted here and explained further in Love in a Cold Climate, something even more sinister.

But at the same time it is very funny.
