A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY – J L Carr, 1980

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I love it, love it, love it.

I read it first in the 1990s and this is probably the fifth or sixth time I have enjoyed it. With the current interest in World War One I thought it was an appropriate time to re-read, although probably 2020 would be even more appropriate.
Carr captures perfectly the way an entire generation was ruined.

There is also a lovely film which I don’t think ever got the recognition it deserved.
