HOLES – Louis Sacher, 1998

This is great!
I have a problem with modern novels aimed at young people which push current political or social issues at them.
Holes, however, is a superlative adventure story, set both in modern times and two and three generations earlier, eventually uniting all narratives.
Stanley Yelnats must battle with miscarriages of justice, current hardships and historic twists of fate.
The Warden is a marvellous character, one of the gems of children’s literature.

Well worth a read for children and adults alike.
