THE FASHION IN SHROUDS – Margery Allingham, 1938

This is one of my favourite of all the Campion novels.  Here, a more mature Albert finds himself having to confront the truth about love; good and bad.
The mystery is gradually unravelled as events which seem to be unconnected are explained and linked together. Amanda Fitton reappears, all grown up and we also meet Val, Campion’s sister. There are some quirky – and what now seem not only dated but dangerous – views of the time, such as Val having to give up her career to marry.

But it is still a splendid read and the mystery is sensational.
