THE WAY THROUGH THE WOODS – Colin Dexter, 1992

This is possibly the most accessible of the Morse novels and one of the best. Morse, although innocent of the crime, is responsible for the inception, the solution and the ultimate conclusion of the mystery, like the setter of crosswords he might aspire to be.

The mystery is as good as ever; the twisted, perverted world beneath the surface is there to unravel (and enjoy).
