TRIESTE AND THE MEANING OF NOWHERE – Jan Morris, 2001

Jan Morris is an author par excellence. She (or formerly he) has given me some of the best descriptions of far away and familiar places that I have ever read.
I love the personal touch, the invocation of times past and times lost.
Any book by this author is well worth a read.
This one about Trieste evokes a time which has passed, a city of the ancients, struggling to find its place in a modern age. It strikes many chords.

Morris knows how to evoke the epic.
