GANGSTERS AND G-MEN ON SCREEN, CRIME CINEMA THEN AND NOW – Gene D. Phillips, 2014

Another book which I would have liked to have written (and I probably could have done something similar if I’d got my act together 20 years ago). But as I didn’t, thank you to Mr Phillips for a fine account of the gangster films I love.
Humphrey Bogart, Edward G Robinson, James Cagney, et al.  Phillips takes us back to the start, not overlooking the origins, and is also savvy enough to be selective with the modern films which aim to merely copy or cash in on the classics.

Good work.
