FIVE ON A TREASURE ISLAND – Enid Blyton, 1942

This is where it all began; the original novel, telling of the first time that the ‘Five’ get together.
Somehow four children and a dog overcome the nastiest of criminals and manage to become rich (although this fortune seems to have been frittered away before the next book).
We are introduced to all the children – capable, ordinary, slightly odd and ‘mumsy’ in age order and then here comes Timmy the dog to round it off.
I loved it when I was seven and I love it now. It matters not that they are all of one race and all of one class, it is a little snippet of British history.

I have just re-read it and loved it all over again.
